Allerød Youth School

The purpose of Allerød Youth School is to inspire the municipality's young people to an active and meaningful leisure life through extracurricular education, events, trips, and youth clubs, while largely focusing on the young people's wishes and needs. Our work is based on the municipality's shared view on children and learning, as well as the children and youth policy and our own four strategic focus areas: strong communities, influence, personal development, and sustainability. All activities and teaching are planned with these values in mind and are evaluated by both youth workers and young people at the end of each course or activity. At the same time, we emphasize that the youth school is for all young people in the municipality and has special initiatives to reach those with fewer opportunities.

Our primary activities are extracurricular education. Here, once a week, you can participate in an informal learning environment and take courses such as sewing, languages, dance, film and acting, yoga, drama, strength training, jewelry design, and more, while also building a strong sense of community across the municipality. Out of respect for the young people's often busy daily lives, we have supplemented our traditional seasonal courses with a range of short events, such as cake and dessert workshops, our popular babysitter training, and various science courses. It is also possible to obtain a moped license, a diving certification, and a first aid certificate. We prioritize mental well-being and empowerment, and therefore offer many courses on topics such as stress management, girl power, and, as something entirely new, an empowerment summer camp—all aimed at strengthening the confidence and self-esteem of our young people. In addition, we run elective courses in personal development for 9th-grade students at one of the city's schools and actively engage in open-school projects for the city's upper secondary classes.

Our target group is all young people between the ages of 13 and 17 in Allerød Municipality. The group comes from diverse backgrounds, with the majority coming from resourceful families with highly educated parents. We have a smaller group of young people with different ethnic backgrounds, including refugees from Ukraine.

Experience with Erasmus+
Our organization is proud to be actively engaged in the Erasmus+ programme, using it as a powerful platform to promote inclusion, dialogue, and core European values.

In 2023, we carried out a youth exchange in partnership with a Turkish youth organization. The project took place in Istanbul and focused on the European Union’s fundamental value of gender equality. Through workshops and intercultural activities, the exchange empowered participants to critically reflect on gender norms and advocate for equality in their local communities.

Building on this experience, we are currently implementing a small-scale partnership project in 2025 titled "Girl Power Empowers", in collaboration with partners from Finland and Turkey. The project aims to strengthen girls’ and young women's self-confidence, leadership, and empowerment all over Europe.

We are also proud to share that in 2025, our organization received Erasmus+ accreditation—allowing us to further deepen our international work with young people and promote long-term learning opportunities through mobility and cooperation across Europe.
